my story
Born and raised in Germany, I grew up at the tail end of a Großfamilie (large family) of 14 children. I was raised in a home that was filled, as you can imagine, with many different personalities and clearly lots of emotions, positive as well as negative ones. Most of all though, my family home was filled with love and support.
As a young adult, I found my way to the US in the spring of 2002. I have moved 9 times with my family since then and fully understand the life of a military spouse. I was married for 22 years and have 4 children from that marriage.
In 2008, I created my first business, BRC Photography, LLC. It has been a joy to work with my many clients from all over the world. I teach photography workshops and offer 1:1 mentoring sessions here in the U.S. as well as across Europe.
While I experienced many ups and downs throughout my marriage, 2017 was by far one of the worst years with the most trauma I never thought I would have to endure. It was incredibly difficult for me to see any light inside the abuse fog and through the trauma bond I found myself in. I knew I needed help, which is when I started my own journey of mental health and recovery through extensive therapy, including EMDR for cPTSD caused by my marriage as well as mindfulness practice.
I knew I needed to pivot yet again.
In 2019, I decided to go back to school and pursue a degree in Business Administration. I quickly realized that my passion for mental health and well-being was much bigger than I thought. I started helping friends who came to me seeking advice and guidance, followed by friends of friends. In 2020, I decided to add additional courses from the Marriage & Family Studies as well as Psychology fields through my University to my degree, earning several certifications along the way.
In the spring of 2023, I finally divorced. I found myself navigating single mom life with a newfound zest for personal development and spending even more time connecting with who I am.
I decided to continue my higher education and am currently enrolled at UC, working on my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.
Having lived through and survived an abusive marriage, I know firsthand the pain, confusion, and isolation that survivors of abuse often encounter. I know the rollercoaster of that abusive & narcissistic cycle like the back of my hand. I also know the incredible strength and resilience that lies within each of us.
Through my own transformative journey, I re-discovered the power of self-love, self-care, and personal empowerment, enabling me to break free from that cycle and creating a life filled with peace, joy, purpose, and fulfillment.
